Dear members, friends and all who visit our website,
I welcome you as the new president of this
important association in Malta.
I thank Mr. Tony Coleiro, the former president,
who resigned because of pressure of work, for the time he
dedicated to the MDA.
I thank also Mr Vincent Scicluna who also had to
step down as a committee member as he is now on the MOC
Committee.
All past and present committee members give much
valued time for the benefit of the MDA.
The Malta
DanceSport Association was formed in 1995 from
dancers of various Ballroom and Latin Dance Schools on our
island.
Many couples wanted to participate in
competitions organised by the International Dance Sport
Federation I.D.S.F. to which many other countries were becoming
affiliated.
That year the first MDA committee from the
dancers and parents was elected.
And so the first Malta DanceSport Association
started to function for its members who became IDSF Amateurs .
From then onwards the MDA, with the organisation
of the IDSF COMPETITIONS in Malta was established in the Dance
World abroad. Our Maltese couples derived the benefit of
competing side by side with many top ranking couples of all ages
from abroad. This gave them the chance to prove their dancing
ability like their foreign adversaries. Many couples enjoyed
travelling to Malta to participate in these World Ranking
International Open Championships and in turn many of our couples
who were invited to participate in competitions abroad, started
achieving better placings in these International Dance
competitions.
When the MDA became a member of the Malta Olympic
Comittee and the Kunsill Malti Ghall-Isport, its members were
being recognised as the MDA Athletes who can participate in the
Games that MOC participates in.
Only the MDA members can participate in the
Friendly Tournaments organised for Non Olympic Sports affiliated
with the MOC.
It is the intention of the new committee which
was elected this February 2009, to increase the number of
members and that soon the MDA will again organise the Closed and
Open competitions for this year. For the last 5 years the MDA
has organised Ballroom and Latin American Dance courses for all
ages. The fees for these courses are reasonable. All are welcome
to enrol at a nominal fee as members of the MDA to benefit from
these courses, the dance workshops, the dance functions
organised often during the year and get other benefits.
Dance practices are held every two weeks on
Sundays from 4.45 p.m. onwards at Ta' Paris Boys Sec School
Hall, in a pleasant atmosphere, where all can enjoy a dance and
chat over a cup of tea or coffee. For the dates and other
info. please visit our home page which we try to update as often
as possible.
I thank all who contact us often through our
website. We try to answer them immediately and bid them welcome
to our Island, We have met many who even came to our dances
while visiting the island.
I send our regards to all dance enthusiasts whom
we have met from abroad. It is our pleasure to make them welcome
at our functions.
I am always ready to help all who contact me.
And last I thank my present committee members who
dedicate much valued time and effort for the success of the MDA
